We spent last Thursday in Knoxville and we were SOOO glad The Muse discovery center was an air conditioned forum for the kids to apply their creativity! The foam construction materials were perfect for constructing forts and the staff even took a picture of the igloo that Joseph, Morgan and William masterminded! The craft table provided materials for making everything from custom wallets to fashion models and cars made from paper rolls. I was tickled to find Lori and Joseph creating pictures with a good ole' spirograph set...I remember having one when I was little and the circular gears inside a guide-ring with colored pens still produce great pictures as Lori and Joseph demonstrated!
I took a break from the discovery center for a couple hours to deliver a presentation about the upcoming World Meeting of Families at the diocesan offices in Knoxville. What a warm welcome and excited group of pilgrims who will trek to Philadelphia this September for a unique meeting of families from around the world. I've given quite a few presentations since January on behalf of the World Meeting of Families and each presentation has been a rich experience for me to meet faithful people who are committed to positive and enriching family life. Thank you Knoxville!
Knoxville has a unique tower with what looks like a gold golf ball on top and we found out the tower is from the World Fair that Knoxville hosted in 1981. The tower now anchors the World Fair Park that was a refreshing oasis for us as the park has a pulsating fountain of cool water to run through! I joined Carlos, William, Michael and Mariana in meandering through the water to cool off from the humid and hot weather (over 90 degrees)! Seems like we went from cool-and-lots-of-rain to hot-and-humid as soon as we got into Tennessee and the fountain was the perfect way to top-off a pizza dinner and refresh for the evening!
