We spent last week just outside Steubenville, Ohio at a family camp run by the Apostolate for Family Consecration called Catholic Familyland...what a wonderful week despite our troubled arrival. We visited Familyland once before in 2009 but we stayed in some cabins. We had been caught up in lots of rain throughout the Midwest and Familyland was a bit water-logged too, so it wasn't a big surprise we got stuck in mud at the campground. Usually it doesn't take us 4 hours to get set up, but we usually don't have to call on a tractor to pull us around either! Fortunately we didn't get any rain from Wednesday afternoon through when we left on Friday morning, so we didn't have the same drama getting out of camp as we did getting into camp.
Morgan declared our week at Familyland the best stop of our trip so far and we all definitely appreciated the family-centric focus of the camp that was both fun with activities and also challenging to grow deeper in our faith lives! Especially after the horrendous Supreme Court decision on June 26 (Obergefell vs Hodges), we certainly had a joyful week of playing together, meeting new families and learning how we can better live our faith. There were about 150 families and over 900 people at camp...tons of kids of all ages, so our kids made lots of new friends. We've had plenty of quality family-time during our trip this year, but there's just something special about being able to share quality family-times with many other families at the same time! Thanks to the Apostolate for a great camp and for all the families who shared in the week!
